Ukrainian soprano Yulia Suleimanova is currently a principal soloist at the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg. She has performed as a guest artist at the Salzburg Festival, where she appeared as Prilepa in The Queen of Spades (2018), and at the Oper im Steinbruch St. Margarethen, singing Micaëla in Carmen (2023). Other guest engagements include performances at Chelyabinsk Opera and the Kosovo Opera Festival.

Ms. Suleimanova received her vocal training at the Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory under Nina Arsentieva, graduating in 2014. She subsequently joined the Mariinsky Theatre’s Academy of Young Opera Singers and became a member of the main soloist ensemble in 2015. She has also participated in masterclasses with Thomas Hampson and Craig Rutenberg.

Her repertoire at the Mariinsky Theatre includes Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Norina (Don Pasquale), Gilda (Rigoletto), Nanetta (Falstaff), Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Elvira (L’Italiana in Algeri), Violetta (La traviata), and Clorinda (La Cenerentola), among others. She has also sung roles such as the Queen of Shemakha (The Golden Cockerel), Marfa (The Tsar’s Bride), Giulietta (I Capuleti e i Montecchi in concert), and Mademoiselle Silberklang (Der Schauspieldirektor). In concert, she has performed at the Mariinsky Concert Hall, Moscow Philharmonic Hall, and the Moscow International House of Music.

Ms. Suleimanova was awarded 1st Prize at the All-Ukraine Oxana Petrusenko Vocal Competition in both 2008 and 2009, and 2nd Prize at the International Young Opera Singers’ Competition “Opera without Borders” in 2015.
