Baritone Taehan Kim, a native of South Korea, is a member of the International Opera Studio at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin. He has appeared as a soloist on concert tours in Korea, Brazil, and Belgium. Recent stage appearances include roles such as the Second Armed Man (Die Zauberflöte), Marquis d’Obigny (La traviata), Marullo (Rigoletto), the Hunter (Rusalka), Yamadori (Madama Butterfly), the Jailer (Tosca), Sid (La fanciulla del West), First Strelitz (Khovanshchina), and Soldier 1 in the world premiere of Marc-André Dalbavie’s Melancholie des Widerstands. He also performed in a Liederabend alongside Corinna Scheurle under the musical direction of Thomas Guggeis.
Mr. Kim studied voice at the Seoul National University College of Music. His training laid the foundation for his early international success and current development as a young artist in Europe.
He joined the opera studio of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in the 2023/24 season and has since taken part in a wide range of repertoire, from standard operatic works to new music. His artistic versatility is reflected in the diversity of his assigned roles and collaborations with leading conductors.
Mr. Kim has received numerous awards at international competitions. In 2023, he won First Prize at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition. Other distinctions include the Brian Dickie Young Talent Award at Neue Stimmen (2022), Second Prize at the Vocal Music Competition of Gwangju (2022), the Scholarship Prize at the 28th Concorso Internazionale Riccardo Zandonai (2022), and the Extraordinary Prize awarded by Internationale OpernWerkstatt at the 59th Concurso Tenor Viñas (2022).
