Serhii Moskalchuk is a Ukrainian bass-baritone currently engaged as a soloist at the Staatstheater Kassel, where he joined the ensemble in the 2022/2023 season. His recent performances there include roles such as Morales (Carmen), Barone (La Traviata), Leporello (Don Giovanni), and Montano (Otello). Prior to this, he was a member of the Opera Studio at the Nationaltheater Mannheim (2021–2023), where he appeared in a wide range of repertoire, including Méru/Third Monk (Les Huguenots), Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Alkalde/Chirurgo (La forza del destino), Kilian (Der Freischütz), and Lo zio Bonzo (Madama Butterfly). During the 2022 season, he also performed at Oper Frankfurt, singing the roles of Kichiga (The Enchantress) and Diener (Capriccio).
Mr. Moskalchuk began his vocal training at the National Music Academy of Ukraine in Kyiv, where he completed both his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees by 2015, studying under Prof. Serhii Skubak. He subsequently joined the Opera Studio at the same institution, and furthered his development at the State University for Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart, where he completed a Master’s degree in opera under Prof. Marion Eckstein. In 2021, he performed Leporello (Don Giovanni) at Stuttgart’s Wilhelma Theater, marking a highlight of his studies in Germany.
His early stage experience included roles such as Zaretsky and Prince Gremin in Eugene Onegin, Sobakin in The Tsar’s Bride, and Bertrand in Iolanta at the National Music Academy Opera Studio. From 2015 to 2016, Mr. Moskalchuk was a soloist with both the Ukrainian Military Ensemble and the Kyiv City Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. In addition to his performing activities, he taught voice at the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts during the 2019–2020 academic year.
Mr. Moskalchuk has worked with noted stage directors such as Calixto Bieito, Sergio Morabito, Jossi Wieler, and Dirk Schmeding, and has appeared under the baton of conductors including Roberto Rizzi Brignoli and Alexander Soddy. He has also participated in master classes with John Norris, Allison Oakes, Janet Williams, Gaston Rivero, Eytan Pessen, and Cornelis Witthoefft.
He has received numerous accolades at international competitions, including third prize at the Klaudia Taev Competition (2021), first prize at the Lions Club Competition in Stuttgart (2021), and third prize with two special prizes at the Zinka Milanov Competition in Rijeka (2022). He was also a finalist at the Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (2022), Marie Kraja (2023), and BA Lirica (2023) competitions, and received a special prize at the Belvedere Competition in 2023. In recognition of his artistic promise, he was awarded a Richard Wagner Association scholarship in 2022 and the Young Talent Award by the Fördergesellschaft Staatstheater Kassel e.V. in 2024.
