Roger Krebs
He is a true “black” bass: the singer Roger Krebs. As King Marke in “Tristan und Isolde,” he will open the next season at Theater Regensburg in September, where he has been a permanent ensemble member since the 2022/23 season. He has also become a favorite with audiences in Regensburg with his powerful and emotive interpretations as Banco (“Macbeth”) and Vodnik (“Rusalka”).
“A quality voice, belonging to the rare genre of black basses” (Rhein Main Zeitung)
“A resonant, deep bass” (St. Galler Tagblatt)
Roger Krebs’ repertoire includes Sarastro, which he has sung on many German stages and at the Salzburg Festival “Opera in the Mountain,” Daland (directed by Toni Burkhardt, conducted by Markus L. Frank, Thüringen Castle Festival), Rocco, and Landgraf (both at the Mecklenburg State Theatre in Schwerin).
The dedicated artist has also excelled as Sparafucile (“Rigoletto”) and Masetto (“Don Giovanni”) at the Schleswig-Holstein State Theater in Flensburg.
Recently, Krebs was heard as Don Basilio (“Il Barbiere di Siviglia”) at the Skive Opera Festival in Denmark, where he also performed as Polonius in the world premiere of the opera “Hamlet,” composed by Jeppe Nörgaard Jacobsen. Engagements have taken Roger Krebs to Liechtenstein, Guernsey, and Sweden, where he gave a gala concert at the 750th-anniversary celebration of Örebro and performed at the renowned “Opera på Skäret” festival. He also appeared as Falstaff in Nicolai’s opera “The Merry Wives of Windsor” with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra.
Guest performances have also taken him to Theater Vorpommern Stralsund/Greifswald as the Hermit in “Freischütz,” to Aachen, Mannheim, Münster, and to the Munich Biennale in Manuela Kerer’s interactive performance “Innen.”
Roger Krebs is the winner of several prestigious singing competitions, including the 2017 Armel Opera Competition in Budapest (organized by ARTE-TV and Armel).
The bass singer received his training at the Mainz Conservatory under Sead Buljubasic. This was complemented by master classes with, among others, Kurt Moll, Harald Stamm, and at the “Munich Singing School” (Bavarian Theatre Academy). Since 2013, he has maintained a close collaboration with David L. Jones in New York.
Roger Krebs has worked with numerous renowned directors and conductors, including Frank Hilbrich, Henry Akina, Bruno Berger-Gorski, and Wolfgang Quetes, as well as Ivan Törzs, Fabrizio Ventura, Golo Berg, Juan Cantarell, and Axel Kober.
