Mikko Järviluoto

Finnish bass Mikko Järviluoto was born in Joensuu and studied voice at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki with Prof. Pekka Kähkönen. In 2004, he moved to Germany as an exchange student and completed his diploma in opera performance at the University of Music Karlsruhe, studying under Prof. Ingrid Haubold.

Mr. Järviluoto has been a member of the ensemble at the Meininger Staatstheater since 2013, where he has performed roles such as Osmin (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Don Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Colline (La Bohème), and Reinmar von Zweter (Tannhäuser), among others. From 2010 to 2013, he was engaged at the Volkstheater Rostock, where his repertoire included Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Don Bartolo (Le nozze di Figaro), and Don Basilio.

As a guest artist, Mr. Järviluoto has appeared at the Savonlinna Opera Festival, performing Dottore Grenvil in La Traviata (2015) under Lawrence Foster and Ceprano in Rigoletto (2017) in a production directed by Sir David McVicar and conducted by Philippe Auguin. In 2013, he participated in the world premiere of Cristóbal Halffter’s Die Schachnovelle at Theater Kiel. In 2024, he appeared at the Staatstheater Braunschweig in Il barbiere di Siviglia and Salome.

His repertoire spans core roles of the bass canon as well as character and contemporary parts. In addition to Sarastro, Osmin, and Hunding (Die Walküre), he has performed Fasolt (Das Rheingold), the Cook (The Love for Three Oranges), Jacob Engstrand (Gespenster), Betto di Signa (Gianni Schicchi), Surin (Pique Dame), and the Hotel Manager in Thomas Adès’ Powder Her Face.
