German tenor Maximilian Mayer studied voice at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, graduating cum laude under the tutelage of Peter Edelmann.

Since 2023, Mr. Mayer has pursued a freelance career. He made his Wagner debut as Froh (Das Rheingold) at the Staatstheater Kassel in April 2023 and is scheduled to appear in the 2024/25 season as Cervantes in Johann Strauss’s Das Spitzentuch der Königin at the Theater an der Wien. In the 2023/24 season, he performed Camille de Rosillon (The Merry Widow) at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, a role he reprised in December 2023 at Oper Köln and is set to perform again in May 2024 at the Vereinigten Bühnen Bozen.

From 2016 to 2023, Mr. Mayer was a soloist at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich, where his repertoire included leading roles such as the title role in Candide, Eisenstein (Die Fledermaus), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Ferrando (Così fan tutte), and Tamino (Die Zauberflöte). He has also performed Tamino as a guest at the Oper Leipzig, Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Theater Dortmund, and Staatstheater Kassel. In 2025, he will make his French debut as Tamino at both the Opéra de Rennes and Angers Nantes Opéra.

Additional guest engagements have brought Mr. Mayer to the Semperoper Dresden, Theater Kiel, Theater Heidelberg, Theater Koblenz, Lehár Festival Bad Ischl, Operklosterneuburg, and the Seefestspiele Mörbisch.
