Janne Sihvo

Finnish bass Janne Sihvo (b. 1992) is currently a soloist at the Finnish National Opera, where his roles have included Masetto in Don Giovanni and the Monk (Carlo Quinto) in Verdi’s Don Carlo. He is the First Prize winner of the 2025 Lappeenranta National Singing Competition.
Mr. Sihvo studied voice at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where he earned his Master’s degree in 2021. He previously completed undergraduate studies in classical guitar and pedagogy at the Oulu University of Applied Sciences.
His operatic experience includes appearances with the Sibelius-Academy Opera as Don Pomponio in Rossini’s La Gazzetta, Superintendent Budd in Britten’s Albert Herring, and Hanezò in Mascagni’s L’amico Fritz (2021–2022). Additional engagements include roles at Stadttheater Oulu, such as Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte (2016), the Pastor in Tuomela’s Neljäntienristeys (2017), and Janne the Stablemaster in Linkola’s Abrahamin pidot (2018). In 2020, he prepared the role of Rocco in Fidelio for Stadttheater Oulu, though the production was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2018, he sang the role of a young priest in Sallinen’s Punainen viiva at Tervahalli in Kemi.
Mr. Sihvo has also appeared as a concert soloist in works including Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium and Passions, as well as Mozart’s Requiem, with orchestras such as the Oulu Symphony Orchestra, the Oulunsalo Ensemble, and Belgium’s Casco Philharmonic.
