Ena Pongrac

The Croatian mezzo-soprano Ena Pongrac received her training at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and the Berlin University of the Arts. She furthered her studies in masterclasses with renowned artists such as Christa Ludwig, Gundula Janowitz, Brigitte Fassbaender, Anne Sofie von Otter, Margreet Honig, and Dunja Vejzovic.

In 2016, she debuted as Zerlina in "Don Giovanni" at the Jyväskylän Ooppera in Finland, where she returned in the 2017/18 season as Mercedes in "Carmen". At the Young Opera Schloss Weikersheim, Ena Pongrac debuted in 2017 as Hänsel in "Hänsel und Gretel".

Her repertoire also includes contemporary roles, such as the title role in Maurice Ravel's "L'enfant et les sortilèges", Madame Lapérouse in Aribert Reimann's "Melusine", and Lana in Arash Safaian's "Exit Paradise". A live recording of Pekka Kostiainen's "Requiem" with the Jyväskylä Sinfonia and Ena Pongrac is available from Alba Records.

In the 2018/19 season, Ena Pongrac was a member of the OperAvenir studio at Theater Basel, where she performed roles such as Alisa in "Lucia di Lammermoor", the Drummer in "Der Kaiser von Atlantis", in "Trouble in Tahiti", and as Kate Pinkerton in "Madama Butterfly". In the 2019/20 season, she was a member of OperAvenirPLUS, performing in "Andersens Erzählungen" and "Schellen-Ursli".

In the 2020/21 season, she began as a permanent ensemble member at Theater Basel, where she appeared as the Second Lady in "The Magic Flute", Zita in "Gianni Schicchi", Flora Bervoix in "La Traviata", and in Herbert Fritsch's production of "Intermezzo". In the 2022/2023 season, she joined the ensemble at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, where she was seen as Fenena in "Nabucco", Varvara in "Katja Kabanova", and Anna Kennedy in "Maria Stuarda". In this season she also made her debut in the role of Varvara at both the Opéra National de Lyon and at the renowned Janáček Brno Festival with great success.

In the 2023/24 season, Ena Pongrac debuted as Thibault in "Don Carlos" and as a Page in "Roberto Devereux" in new productions at the Grand Théâtre de Genève.
