Doheon Kim

South Korean bass Doheon Kim is currently a member of the soloist ensemble at Opera Radebeul, where his roles include Masetto in Don Giovanni, the Hermit in Der Freischütz, Johann in Werther, Sparafucile and Monterone in Rigoletto, and Volker in Die Lustigen Nibelungen. Prior to this, Mr. Kim was a member of the Junge Ensemble at the State Theater Mainz, with guest engagements at Landestheater Koblenz and the State Theater Wiesbaden.

Mr. Kim’s repertoire extends to roles such as Daland in Der fliegende Holländer at Felsenbühne Rathen and Luisenburgfestspiele, Sir Humphrey Davenaut in Der Vampyr with Landesbühnen Sachsen, and the Water Goblin in Rusalka. He has also performed the roles of Abbot in Britten’s Curlew River at Meißen Dom, Dankwart in Die Lustigen Nibelungen, and the Warden of Orest in Strauss’s Elektra at Staats Theater Wiesbaden.

Mr. Kim is an alumnus of Hochschule für Musik Mainz, where he completed a Konzertexamen in Opera Singing under the guidance of Prof. Andreas Karasiak. He also holds a Master’s degree in Opera Singing from Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main, having studied with Prof. Klesie Kelly-Moog, and a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from Yonsei University in Seoul, under the tutelage of Prof. Hyunjoo Jang.

Throughout his career, Mr. Kim has refined his craft through participation in masterclasses with distinguished artists such as Helmut Deutsch, Claudia Eder, and Samuel Youn. His talents have been recognized in various competitions, including as a semi-finalist at the Concours Bordeaux Medoc Lyrique and prizewinner at the Meistersinger Kurs Wettbewerb in Neustadt an der Weinstraße.
