Cornelia von Kerssenbrock serves as Chief Conductor and Musical Director of the Festival Immling, where she has conducted over 50 operas by composers including Verdi, Puccini, Wagner, Bizet, Mozart, Händel, and Vivaldi. Renowned for her Puccini and Verdi interpretations as well as innovative Baroque productions, she regularly receives invitations to conduct at opera houses worldwide.
Ms. Kerssenbrock’s extensive engagements include performances with the State Opera Baku (Azerbaijan), Städtebundtheater Passau (Germany), Munich Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra Reichenhall, Stadttheater Biel/Solothurn (Switzerland), State Opera Kraków (Poland), State Opera Novi Sad (Serbia), Georgian Sinfonietta, Radio Symphony Orchestra Tbilisi (Georgia), Radio Symphony Orchestra Pilsen (Czech Republic), and orchestras across Romania, Bulgaria, Canada, Ukraine, Qatar, and more. In 2024, she will debut with the State Symphony Orchestra of Athens (Greece) and in Adana (Turkey). From 2017–2019, she served as Musical Director of the Music Festival Swakopmund (Namibia) and has collaborated with Chinese music institutions such as Peking University and Xingxiang Music University on opera productions.
Ms. Kerssenbrock studied church music and conducting at the Mozarteum Salzburg under Nikolaus Harnoncourt, with a specialization in Baroque music. She completed her studies at the Freiburg Music Academy (Germany) with Peter Gülke and at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana (Siena, Italy) under Gianluigi Gelmetti.
A dedicated advocate of Baroque music, Ms. Kerssenbrock has worked with ensembles such as La Beata Olanda (Freiburg) and is a regular guest at the Baroque Festival Tbilisi with the Georgian Sinfonietta. Her Baroque opera interpretations have been featured at the Handel Festival Halle (Germany), Stadttheater Biel/Solothurn (Switzerland), and venues in Georgia, Poland, and Germany. She received the Handel Prize (1999)at the Handel Festival Halle.
